Dragons, Games, and Adventures in Writing

I find the ebb and flow of my writing process fascinating. Much of the time, I’m in creative mode, working on one project or another, in awe of how far I’ve come as a writer over the past decade. Other times, I have to step back, to attend to life and binge a series or sleep like a hibernating bear.

Lately, I’ve been working on two projects that have me excited:

Dragons in the Weaving

The sequel to Falling Through the Weaving has been a long time coming. Dragons in the Weaving completes the duology, Roots and Stars, which is part of the World Tree Chronicles.

These two books, Falling Through the Weaving and Dragons in the Weaving, comprise an epic manuscript I started writing when I was pregnant with my twin boys. I’ve been revising this story on and off for the last eight years, and it’s gone from being a hot mess to something magnificent, if I do say so myself.

In Falling Through the Weaving, time-traveling musician Shelta breaks all her rules for three men who share the same soul, and plunges so far back in time that dragons still exist. This first instalment in Roots and Stars has elements of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander and Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife.

Dragons in the Weaving takes the adventures to a new level. Shelta seeks assistance from the gods, who ask her to interfere where they cannot, and learns how much she’ll sacrifice for her family that stretches across the branches of the World Tree.

Dragons in the Weaving is slated for release on or before August 1st, 2022. Here’s a little tease of the front cover, which will be revealed soon!

The Game I Can’t Talk About

The other project I’m working on is an interactive fiction game for Heart’s Choice, the romance division of Choice of Games. It’s fantasy romance, and that’s about all I can say for now, except that it’s so much fun to write omg!!!

Over the past seven years, I’ve written eight novels, all of which I love. But working in a game format is outlandishly entertaining as a writer. I get to envision several ways each scene could go, creating continual choices for the reader to make to create their player character and experience different outcomes with the non-player characters and fantasy world.

I’m about to start writing a chapter that includes a sex scene, except it doesn’t just include one, because the player can choose from several options of lovers, all of which are up for some fun. And since the player gets to choose what they prefer, I can write a sweet version, a mild version, and a spicy version. Yes, I’m looking forward to writing this part of the story. In fact, I’m looking forward to all of it.

Blogging

I’ve been rather busy with writing, raising a puppy, and homeschooling my twins, but manage to get a blog post done once a month or so on the Hive blockchain. I love blogging there, as the engagement is real and often encouraging, and I get to write about pretty much anything.

My latest post was in answer to a contest question asking “Where is your happy place.” Of course, I couldn’t just pick one. I also couldn’t help but pile on the pictures of me in the redwoods, doing yoga in the ocean, and playing guitar in the trees. Read My Happy Place for all the pictures and some of my favorite spots on earth.
